Children who have experienced a loss need the support of understanding peers. Circle of Life hosts in-school groups for K-6 children that have experienced a loss via death, divorce, or separation.
Trained volunteers will work with the kids to:
- Find better ways of identifying their feelings.
- Learn healthier coping strategies.
- Address behavioural challenges.
- Develop a healthy support network.
Programs run twice a week for three weeks (1-hour sessions). The program is very interactive, and has been used successfully with all ages. The average session includes fixed activities and open discussions meant to create healthy dialogue about grief, loss, and dealing with change.
There is no fee for the program, but service must be requested by the school’s principal directly. All schools within the City and County of Grande Prairie are eligible.
